The ASBDA National Association, as well as the Local Chapter, presents awards to recognize outstanding programs and teachers.

Awards: Services

Career Service Award

Director Award - State Sponsored

The Career Service Award recognizes band directors who have contributed to band programs throughout the span of their teaching careers.  Recipients should be a members of ASBDA, and they should have served as board or committee members for the South Carolina Chapter of ASBDA.  Up to three directors may be recognized per year.

Program of Excellence

Band Program Award - State Sponsored

The Program of Excellence Award recognizes band programs that have consistently achieved at a SUPERIOR level.  Additional criteria includes significant participation in Solo & Ensemble, diversity of music course offerings, student participation in honor ensembles and clinics, featured appearances at clinics and conventions, a high percentage of students enrolled in the school's music programs, and significant participation by the director in professional development activities.

Outstanding Potential Award

Young Band Director Award - Nationally Sponsored

The ASBDA Outstanding Potential Award was designed to honor outstanding band directors who have distinguished themselves early in their careers and who demonstrate the professional standards and artistic qualities upheld by the American School Band Directors Association. The Outstanding Potential Award should be given to a young director who exhibits the qualities of a future outstanding director.

The award will be presented at a public occasion, such as concert, awards convocation, assembly or banquet or other such public function.

Edwin Franko Goldman Award

Contributor Award - Nationally Sponsored

The ASBDA created the Edwin Franko Goldman Award as a symbol of high esteem and respect, and as a measure of appreciation and gratitude for outstanding personal contributions to the school band movement.  The recipient may or may not be a member of ASBDA, but shall be an active or retired band director whose teaching career shall have included work in the schools and who has contributed substantially in the fields of Grand, Junior and Senior High School Band work.

Austin Harding Award

Contributor Award - Nationally Sponsored

Exceptional contributions have been made to the school band movement by a number of individuals, whose careers have not included extensive teaching in the fields of Grade, Junior and Senior High School bands in the schools. The A. Austin Harding Award is presented to these individuals for valuable and dedicated service to the bands of America as a measure of ASBDA's esteem, appreciation and respect for their outstanding personal contribution to the school band movement.
